Pomegranate Antioxidant Powers

Here’s the lowdown on the antioxidants in pomegranates.   Sure, you may have heard they’re great for you.  They’ll cure heart disease, prevent cancer, and blah blah blah.  But guess what?  That’s only half true.

In fact too many antioxidants can be bad for you.  (But don’t worry about that.)  If you’re really looking for the most benefits from antioxidants, you can’t get them from drinking just pomegranate juice.  Why?  Because their are tons of different antioxidants and each will help a different part of your body.  So, what’s the key?  Should you spend dozens of dollars a week on expensive pomegranate juice?

Well, if you like it.  But don’t do it for the health benefits.  Or for the antioxidants.  If you want to be healthy, and gain the benefits from antioxidants, eat a diverse cuisine.  Most fruits and vegetable you eat have different antioxidants.  As  a genereal rule of thumb try to eat every color.  Oranges are orange.  Blueberries are blue… You get the picture.  Each color is often associated with a different antioxidant.  This is because of how plants absorb light for photosynthesis, but I won’t get into that.

So — yes, pomegrantes have antioxidant powers.  Pomegranate juice has a lot of antioxidants.  But its not a cure all.  In general, if you want to be healthy, eat wide variety of foods.
